kdb q Cast Error

Cast errors are caused when you attempt to cast a list of symbols to an incomplete domain. For example:

q) / Successful casting to a domain
q)vals:`p`p`o`i`i`i`i`i`k
q)domain:distinct vals
q)enumeratedVals:`domain$vals

q)domain
`p`o`i`k
q)enumeratedVals
`domain$`p`p`o`i`i`i`i`i`k

q)/ Invalid casting as domain does not have all entries.
q)badDomain:`p`o
q)myVals:`badDomain$vals
'cast
